CLASSIC 24

A NO-NONSENSE WORKHORSE BUILT TO TAKE ON WINTER'S WORST

The Classic's endless appetite for snow starts with its all-steel construction, including a large 11" steel serrated auger. It may be lightweight and easy to control, but this machine was made to handle serious snow removal, throwing up to 59 tons per hour. Interlocking levers let you operate one-handed when throwing snow and driving. This no-nonsense machine lives up to, and beyond, its name.

My personal snow-blower is an Ariens 624E, model 920001, I bought it back in 2008, (75 anniversary) it was the last model with the good old Tecumseh engine. Anyway, we bought the 2020 version and it seems even stronger. I do like the new Ariens AX engine which I believe is made in USA, glad it's not one of those junk China MTD engines. I also like that the impeller is even smaller, thus no ice wall can build up behind it. This unit starts first or second pull every time, I have accidentally hit some large sticks and it chomps them right up. I highly recommend this unit for smaller driveways and walkways, not bad at $799.","Rating":5,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":0,"NotHelpfulCounter":1,"Posted":"2024-10-12T20:05:25.0740533","ApproverComment":"HI Chet, thank you so much for the 5 star review! Goes through deep snow easily. Kind of wish the lowest forward gear was a little bit slower. Other than that, it has been great. It has been very easy to start. I just apply the choke, give it three pumps on the prime, and usually starts right up with the first pull. It took three pulls the last time, but it was also about -25 degrees out. Gave it a couple extra primes and it started right up. Haven't had to use the electric start. It throws snow great, 20-25 feet with dry snow. 10-15 feet with wet snow. Very easy to adjust the direction and angle which you want the snow to go. I love it. Definitely recommend this snow blower. I purchased my unit from Lowe's. I went in to buy a Craftsman that was kind of in the same category and they were out and the Ariens is what they had just a couple more of. The Ariens did cost more but now I know why, and all of this is in comparison to a Craftsman that a buddy of mine does have. (mine makes fun of his👍)\n\nNow like I said this thrower will move some snow. This monster would even do a good job at moving that plowed snow that is pushed in front of a driveway that the city decides would be a great place. 🤨 So from a mild night of snowing to a plow blocked driveway this thrower will make a path and without struggling. \n\nNow at first I did not know why it did not have full axle lock and then (hand to forehead slap) seen that I did not have the one side of my axle pinned correctly. Once axle was pinned correctly this unit would motor right through the snow. It also would climb the ramps that I have for my pickup so loading and uploading out of my truck was with ease and no having to lift it in or out of my truck. \n\nNow maybe I am missing it but it would be great if I could purchase a lighting kit for this unit, I can't do all my plowing in daylight hours so lights would be great addition to this thrower. \n\nAll and all this has been a great snow thrower and I am sure my friends and family are happy that I came to their places to Clear their driveway and sidewalks. Well some had so much fun using mine I may be a unpaid salesman for Ariens equipment. 😁👍","Rating":5,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":1,"NotHelpfulCounter":0,"Posted":"2024-10-12T19:56:27.1202205","ApproverComment":""},{"MetaData":null,"HeroData":null,"ReviewID":29669,"ReviewGuid":"655d9f34-07b3-4295-a74f-f7bc35204276","ModelID":"92002500","FirstName":"Greg","City":"","State":"Upstate NY","Email":"gregory.connors@icloud.com","Headline":"No snow like magic","Comment":"These machines are magic! My driveway is about 100 yards long and maybe 40 yards wide. I was very frustrated after purchasing it and then using it for the first time. Seemingly the frustration happened because I was unaware of the pin placement for the drive wheels. It wasn't until my wife was talking with her brother who explained where the pins on the axle should go; the way I brought it home after it had been assembled at the store was causing only one wheel to drive it and that wheel was spinning when climbing a very slight grade. I'm guessing too that because of that, the machine was advancing at too fast of a speed despite that I had it at the slowest speed setting. Now that I've inserting the pins correctly I haven't the opportunity to use it (no substantial snowfall) but trying it without blowing snow seems like it'll be OK and my opinion will change. Yes, I did let the store know that they should clue purchasers in on setting it up where both wheels drive the machine.","Rating":5,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":1,"NotHelpfulCounter":0,"Posted":"2024-10-12T19:49:26.467878","ApproverComment":""},{"MetaData":null,"HeroData":null,"ReviewID":31548,"ReviewGuid":"c7df22e9-760c-4ef0-9c23-5d535cf015c2","ModelID":"92002500","FirstName":"David","City":"","State":"IL","Email":"david.gramenz@gmail.com","Headline":"Powerful and easy to handle. Fired up each time I needed it! ","Comment":"I was always hesitant to buy a snowblower because it was hit or miss if I'd need it, and most people I knew with one always had some sort of problem with it. I moved to a larger house with a 3 car wide and two car deep driveway on a corner lot with a lot of sidewalk to clear. My neighbor has this brand and model and highly recommended it. We had a couple of large snowfalls and I was really happy I had this machine. Assembly was fairly easy. If you get stuck at any point Ariens has assembly videos on YouTube with one of their technicians. I didn't need the electric start, it fired up effortlessly with the pull every time I needed it. It comes out of the box setup as one wheel drive, when doing sidewalks with thicker snow it took effort to keep a straight line. I locked the other wheel and that made it much easier. The only downside to leaving in two-wheel drive is the machine isn't as easy to manually turn or maneuver at the end of a pass. Using the machine drive helped turn easier. I spent a little more and got the larger CC engine. It had plenty of power to get through everything, especially the dreaded end of the driveway after the plow comes by. They also engineered the machine so that it is very easy to maintain. Oil drain and spark plug are very easy to access. I had two issues, one of which was my fault. I had gloves on and turned the gas shutoff the wrong direction and the knob broke. I called ARIENS customer service and they immediately sent a replacement no questions asked, I had it in a couple of days. I was still able to use the machine by turning the metal piece the knob connected to. The other issue I had was the auger not engaging. I realized that there was too much slack in the cable and adjusted it, it worked great after that. It did come slightly loose again so I preemptively adjusted it again to avoid issue. TLDR: No regrets buying this machine. Easy to assemble, easy to use, has plenty of power, and the company has excellent customer service.","Rating":5,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":2,"NotHelpfulCounter":0,"Posted":"2024-10-12T19:48:30.3343303","ApproverComment":""},{"MetaData":null,"HeroData":null,"ReviewID":31078,"ReviewGuid":"72d65e67-691e-4268-86ea-e48d1fea7729","ModelID":"92002500","FirstName":"Michael","City":"","State":"BC","Email":"mike.elaine@shaw.ca","Headline":"The lifesaver","Comment":"We purchased our Ariens snow blower this winter. We had been thinking about purchasing one for a year or two and with the heavy snowfall this year we decided to take the plunge. We are sure glad we did. The night we picked it up, the snow fell again. This dump of snow was wet and heavy. The machine worked like a charm. Finished clearing our walkway and driveway as well as 2 of our neighbours sidewalks. Well built machine with ample power. The only slight problem I had was when the snow was very deep and the bottom layer was ice. The drive wheels could not get enough traction to plow through the snow ahead of it. I had to also push the unit so that it could clear the snow. Chains would probably have helped but I did not have a set. Should it throw or just blow, to get rid of the snow, Or should it just melt it, we needed to know. What could it be, that would help with this chore, Whose product would be best, who would sell more and more. Many companies competed, but only one could be best. It was Ariens of course, they beat all the rest. Now the tool was invented, and given a great name, But history was repeated, and that was a shame. A once descriptive name, was now ruined for all time, And even the makers caved in, what a crime. No matter what you think, of this much needed tool, If you can't see that it throws snow, you're not very cool.","Rating":5,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":4,"NotHelpfulCounter":10,"Posted":"2024-10-12T19:43:12.8892696","ApproverComment":""},{"MetaData":null,"HeroData":null,"ReviewID":39806,"ReviewGuid":"91c4dbbd-fa3e-4fbe-8c9f-c9d739a7daca","ModelID":"92002500","FirstName":"Tim","City":"","State":"Wisconsin","Email":"hardrun1@hotmail.com","Headline":"A base model to rule them all! ","Comment":"I bought my snow blower when I became a homeowner about 5 years ago. Its one of my favorite possessions. I really enjoy snow blowing with this machine. It lets me have a \"let it snow\" attitude. \nI have a typical suburban house. I clear my driveway, my neighbor's driveway, my other neighbor's driveway, and the sidewalk on my block from cross street to cross street. That includes the ADA compliant curb cuts at both corners. Unless you have a commercial snow removal business or a truly big property, this is all the snow blower you need. \nThis blower will eat through anything I feed it including the refrozen, ice chunk containing, road scrapings left by the plow. Not only will it chew through it, it will do it at speed. Put it in low gear and it will go through anything up to full intake height without stopping. I've broken a couple shear bolts running into buried sticks, but never on anything snow/ice. The shear bolts did exactly what they were designed to and protected the rest of the machine from damage. \nI usually run it with one drive wheel only as that makes turning so much easier and I find the motive force of one wheel to be adequate. For those occasions where there is ice under the snow and I need the extra traction, moving the pin to engage the second wheel isn't hard. I can even do it without taking off my mittens. I did add the chains to the tires. \nIdeas for improvement.:\nSwivel even more than the 205 degrees. When coming to the sidewalk-driveway intersection I want to keep blowing the snow into the yard behind me not sideways into my clean driveway. Obviously you can't go too far or the operator will be eating snow. If mine is 205, I think 220 would be better. \nAn idle lever. The governor does a great job of throttle control when clearing snow, but I wish I could idle the engine down if I need to step away for a minute or have a word with someone nearby. \nMy engine will not start unless fully choked. Not even at full operating temperature. If I choke it it's one or two pulls, very reliable, and as soon as it fires I can unchoke it. But it seems like an engine at temp shouldn't need choke to start. Is this normal?\n\nWe just had the snowiest week since the '40s and I am so grateful I have a really good snowblower. I had to find a way to say thank you and encourage others to buy the same. Blower does toss the snow more than 25 feet……WOW ..... have to keep the discharge chute cap in one of the two lowest positions so snow does not go too far !! One definite selling feature was the chute turning radius of 205 degrees….. I in tight areas, this is a huge advantage over others with only 180 degrees. in tight areas. Also, wanted to try out the metal chute vs plastic, as old unit of 29 years, while good, had a plastic chute, and clogged often. Never did figure if the problem was the wet snow combined with the plastic chute, or something else. \n\nNot mentioned by Lowes sales person, nor evident in any quick overview of the manual / specs, is the Attachment Clutch Lever which locks down when the Traction Drive Clutch Lever is down, thus releasing one hand to operate the chute direction and cap levers…….. the attachment lever disengages automatically when the traction drive lever is released, so both the blower auger and the entire blower unit stop immediately. Excellent !\n\nMy unit pulled to the left a bit. Checked tire pressure ( gauge did not even move ) so put in 16 Lbs each. Then checked the skid plates, both were set differently, neither had \"tight\" nuts, I would call them snug..... one (on the left) was not level...... so I took several measurements to ensure same distance from top of the of housing ( which encloses the auger ) and compared both sides the scraper blade............ Then checked via measurement the scraper blade......that was set perfectly ........... Then to verify, checked to make sure BOTH wheels have the lock pins ( called axle lock pin on page EN-12 of my manual ) \n\nAlso, every single model of the assembled display Ariens in the stores, the chute was somewhat difficult to turn, was sort of rough, discouraging, almost a buy/no buy point, but when I assembled mine, ensured there were no burrs on the gear edges and then applied a nice coating of grease..........wow, smooth !!!! ( gear assembly very accessible if your doing the assembly, see steps 2-4, 2-6, 2-7 on the foldout )\n\n Used the electric start for the initial start only, after adding gas, but since, this one starts on 1st, or worst case, 2nd pull so far and that is under 20F, once was under zero degrees F. Actually easier to pull start than the old blower . \n\nWould agree on locating the oil level port....... must have looked at it several times before actually realizing..... suggest the manual have an arrow or blowup of that, as when web-shopping, have seen quite a few mentions about locating the port on various web sites. \n\nIf there is any downside, am a bit surprised on how much maint is required every 25 hours - some owners might have to have an authorized dealer perform, which adds to the cost and time to/from the shop. \n\nExpecting unit to last at least 25 years with proper care. Am located along the front range of Colorado, so we get some very light snows, and some very wet, heavy spring snows..... but as mentioned, that last storm with the heavy wet base offered no real challenge to the blower. Again, distance the snow was projected was very impressive. \n\nPurchased the unit in a carton, most units were pre-assembled on the store floor, so did the assembly myself. Most challenging step was 3-3 in the foldout, inserting the discharge chute cable...............ended up removing the bracket, then fitting the cable end, then re-installing the bracket. \n\nOn 29 year old blower, had a variable speed for the engine, thought I would miss that, so far, not so, even though the Ariens ( and apparently all newer units on the market ) are either off or running at a preset RPM....... Exhaust is much quieter on Ariens compared to old unit, exhaust does not have much of an intensive exhaust smell..… (in other words, do not have to hang my coat in the garage when done with the blower, wife said the old blower made my clothes stink)\n\nAm using \"clear \" gas ( no ethanol ) \n\nWith yards and walks and storage space getting smaller, and potential purchasers getting up there in the birthday counts, would be nice to have this two stage unit in say 22 inch model............24 inch is fine, but a smaller unit might be, lighter, easier to maneuver, and store.\n\nAlso note the unit was purchased at Lowes, if buying online, best to compare prices, thought the Lowes price at $799 was very good. I looked around for a while and I found a lot of machines that had lots of plastic, which in my mind does not last. I did a lot of research and looked at a lot of snow blowers until I settled on the Classic 24. I have a wide driveway and a long, wide sidewalk to clean.\nAfter running this machine in our winter, I can honestly say I know I made a great purchase and is worth the money. I unboxed it myself and did the small assembly which only took 30 minutes. Very easy to start by hand or with the electric start. Easy to handle and maneuver. Controls are easy. I can throw snow across the street and annoy my neighbors if I want....LOL.\nI don't feel like this it is going to break or fall apart on me. Just do the maintenance needed and I feel it will last for many years to come.\nI highly recommend this machine to anyone.","Rating":5,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":0,"NotHelpfulCounter":0,"Posted":"2018-03-12T00:00:00","ApproverComment":""},{"MetaData":null,"HeroData":null,"ReviewID":17138,"ReviewGuid":"089a4403-d874-4b3f-a2aa-55da821d07d2","ModelID":"92002500","FirstName":"Charles ","City":"","State":"WI","Email":"charlesmann1@att.net","Headline":"Mann","Comment":"I agree with the comment below about the dipstick. I to had to look for some time to find it. Also agree that it would be easier to read in white than black. My other concern is it moves too fast at the lowest speed setting. It needs to move slower when we have heavy wet snow. Not sure if there is an adjustment that can be made to slow the machines forward motion or not. I am 78 and don't move that quickly any more.. I was surprised that it had no throttle to slow down the engine? I realize that when blowing snow it needs to be at full throttle. But on my old snowblower I always throttled it down after I was done clearing snow to a lower speed to give the engine a chance to cool down before shutting it off. I bought Ariens because of the longevity of the old one, ability to get parts, and made in USA.. Overall the Classic is good. I liked that on the old one there was a pull/push tab on the wheel to lock both wheels into drive mode whereas the new one requires you to remove a cotter pin and move the wheel out to align holes on the wheel and axle. It's effective but a hassle. \nControls are easy to use, numerous speeds are nice, and it throws snow far. I am 6'2\" and wish there was a handle extention kit or a way to elevate the handles as I find myself bending forward a lot while maneuvering but this wish is on every snowblower. \nMy complaint is engine power from the 208cc. We had about 8 inches of medium weight snow (dry, rod shaped) and I was stopping every 2'-3' to let engine catch up through most of it. Neighbors with 2-stage blowers were not stopping or bogging down like I was. It does light weight snow with no problem but I bought 2 stage for bigger snow. I am disappointed and wondering how heavy spring snows will go. I am concerned about longevity of underpowered engine and engaging clutch repeatedly after engine catches up. Apparently this is about a 5-6 HP engine if you are trying to compare to older engine power rating methods. If you have the option, get a bigger engine.","Rating":4,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":0,"NotHelpfulCounter":1,"Posted":"2021-02-20T15:52:19.5330841","ApproverComment":""},{"MetaData":null,"HeroData":null,"ReviewID":17038,"ReviewGuid":"e6e8d865-906d-4bbc-9c16-cf905bbfb22e","ModelID":"92002500","FirstName":"Penelope","City":"","State":"Maine","Email":"pzandrews@yahoo.com","Headline":"Ms.","Comment":"I have used my new Ariens twice this winter, and it performed beautifully. Use it three times last year with out many issues. This year I went to fire it up and it won't start. I drained the gas at the end of last year to be safe. I torn it apart and there was no gas to the carburetor at all. I cleaned everything up and put fresh gas in and it started. The main issue I have not is the knobs used to shut off the fuel and control the choke are horrible. Made from very cheap plastic and both dry rotted over the summer and broke first time I used them. They do not sell replacement parts for these and good luck getting anyone to help you in customer service. I do like the machine and it does work good when it is running, but service and parts are a nightmare. Always liked their performance. Unfortunately, the plastic fuel valve knob broke off before I could start it for the first time. Got a replacement that was red instead of black (supply chain issues I'm told). The second knob broke just sliding it onto the metal tab. I finally just used a pair of pliers to turn the fuel valve on and will leave it on until I put it away for the summer. Why have such a cheap piece of plastic on this machine? Also, now that I have used it a few times, I see snow spilling out between the impeller housing and the auger where there is a gap between the welds. I went back to the dealer to look at other machines and it looks like they all have a gap between the welds. Irritating to see snow being thrown back onto my driveway between the spot-welds. I plan to caulk the gap when the weather gets warm. Starts and runs fine otherwise. I also thought that it might have been an unfortunate wind shift during the shoot?\nHowever, this same thing happened to me almost every time I used my new Ariens Classic. This blower chops the snow so completely that it hangs in the air and any slight change in wind direction (or in no wind situations) leaves me covered in fine powder snow at the end of the job.\nI have adjusted the thrower shoot to every possible position but I find this doesn't really address the issue unless the wind is blowing hard and steady in a specific direction the entire time.\nI'm giving the Classic a 3 star rating because it also struggles to handle the heavy stuff at the end of the driveway.\nI am hopeful that this blower will last at least 20+ years like my previous MTD Yardman did with minimum maintenance (oil changes, spark plugs, fuel stabilizer, etc.)","Rating":3,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":0,"NotHelpfulCounter":0,"Posted":"2018-03-09T00:00:00","ApproverComment":""},{"MetaData":null,"HeroData":null,"ReviewID":39729,"ReviewGuid":"f9158ea3-6296-4916-9832-6986790a4f0c","ModelID":"92002500","FirstName":"Tanya","City":"","State":"Massachusetts ","Email":"Pprincess51380@aim.com","Headline":"","Comment":"We bought the Ariens Classic January of 2022 and that was the only winter we were able to use it. I pulled the cord a couple more times, and my hand must have grazed the fuel shutoff switch, because it snapped off and flew across the garage. Now I am not able to turn the fuel on or off. Having researched a fix on the internet, it turns out this is a common issue with Ariens snowblowers, which leaves me wondering why I paid good money for a premium brand when they are obviously using cheap chintzy low quality plastic parts. If I wanted a sore back I would shovel the drive.I under stand you have to make it fit short and tall people. It would be nice if the handles were adjustable.\n\nI might add taller tires to raise the back end up, but I don't know if that would cause problems to the fuel line as its gravity fed and it might cause the engine to starve for fuel. This is the first snow fall for the season will try it out some more but I'm thinking I will have to live with it .\n","Rating":2,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":0,"NotHelpfulCounter":2,"Posted":"2021-02-12T13:50:58.5779245","ApproverComment":""},{"MetaData":null,"HeroData":null,"ReviewID":39672,"ReviewGuid":"39b0be1f-c6b0-44e5-94b1-980fe89589f4","ModelID":"92002500","FirstName":"kenneth smith","City":"","State":"MI","Email":"kensmith467@gmail.com","Headline":"Brand new Classic excitement then disappointment","Comment":"open up box, assemble. beautiful. Why have 6 forward speeds when there is no slow forward speeds? 1st forward and 1st reverse are both to fast for heavy snow and getting it in and out of the garage around cars. I can not imagine how fast 6 gear is. If I wanted to jog I would just run on the tread mill. I know they will say it is adjustable by shortening or lengthening the drive rod but it really is not. If you change it to slow the 1st forward speed down it makes the reverse speeds faster and vice versa. The machine needs all speeds slowed down. Every snow blower should have a creeper forward and creeper reverse gear to get the blower in and out of the garage and for heavy wet snow. I did plenty of research up front and other family members have also owned the same model I purchased for years without any problems. My experience thus far has been a nightmare. I purchased the snowthrower through Ace Hardware in Prior Lake in December of 2022 and since basically day one there were issues with it. The in store assembly was apparently completed poorly, as I constantly needed to adjust all speed and auger settings during each use. After about a week or two of use, the auger stopped engaging any turning altogether unless I would hold down the auger throttle and tap the blades from the front to make them click into gear. After all of this, I am still holding onto hope that the machine may just be still breaking in and may eventually begin to run smoother without constant adjustments. However, about a week ago during a normal snowfall in January of 2023, I am about 20 minutes into clearing my driveway and the snowthrower begins to sputter. I think, ok, it’s almost out of gas, but no, that was not it at all, it had plenty. Seconds later it begins to backfire multiple times sounding like gunshots then the motor kills. Ever since that, when trying to start the snowthrower, it either immediately backfires extremely loudly, or starts and runs for less than a minute, then backfires and kills. I am being told by the salesman at Ace Hardware that this is a warranty issue that will need to be discussed with a licensed Ariens servicer. I have since done that and am told that if this is deemed to not be an initial manufacture defect (however that may be determined) I will be liable. All I have done is literally attempt to use the product I purchased for well over $1000 that I am not even yet done paying for in a normal manner. The equipment was purchased new and is less than two months old, and is currently completely unusable. To say I am dissatisfied, disappointed, disgusted, and angry is a wild understatement. If anyone at Ariens can reach out to me to help fix this situation, please do so. I am a very reasonable person who just wants the brand new piece of equipment they purchased to work. I honestly feel that I may have a lemon, because I know many others who only have good things to say. If I hear nothing I will need to reach out to the BBB.","Rating":1,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":2,"NotHelpfulCounter":0,"Posted":"2023-02-08T09:29:29.7579725","ApproverComment":"Ben, We're sorry to hear about your experience with your Ariens snow blower. And good luck trying to add oil or know if you've got enough! The fill hole is very small and angled, making it impossible to fill w/o either tipping the whole machine over, or using a funnel(and one with a very small filler tube). And what I suppose is meant to be the dipstick is an extremely short, thin, and threaded piece. No indicator on it as to where the oil level should be--probably because it's too short for any writing, plus it's threaded. This is probably an excellent machine for actually clearing snow--have yet to be able to test it for that--but for this design flaw, which could lead to engine damage from not having enough oil because who knows how much you have, or if it's even possible to add a sufficient enough given the design--I have to give it a very low rating.","Rating":1,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":4,"NotHelpfulCounter":0,"Posted":"2023-02-05T15:29:04.3881248","ApproverComment":"Hello Paula,
\r\nThank you for taking the time to leave a review on our product.
