Maybe the auger housing doesn't extend far enough forward on the sides? I had a John Deere TRS-32 for 20 years and it never did that even in 2ft deep snow\n-The autoturn feature overall makes it more difficult to clear deep or heavy snow, having to constantly apply force to one side to keep it straight or make corrections, even though it is easy to manuver because of the feature. Seems to work better in light snow.\n-The Chute turn lever is on the left side, however if you remove your left hand to adjust the chute direction, it will stop moving. If you want to make chute changes while you are moving, you have to use your right hand and cross over, which is a little awkward.\n\nOverall I regret selling my old large, heavy John Deere and replacing it with this machine, even though this one cost as much. Now being able to afford a premium product I decided on the Platium 30. My choices came down to a similar Simplicity or the Ariens. Because the Ariens is built in Wisconsin where I live, I decided to go with the local product. Almost immediately I started having problems with stalling. The fix for this is to loosen the gas cap. Seriously? Aren't I risking getting water in the gas? Then I lost drive to the wheels...some internal pulley broke. The dealer repaired it under warranty but I had to deliver the machine back to them and pick it up. I know that my local Simplicity dealer provides pickup and delivery for warranty work. The chute control is balky at best and hangs up nearly every time I need to change the chute direction. The choke knob is confusing and the owners manual does not give clear direction on how to use it. How hard would it be to put an arrow on the knob indicating what direction to turn it to choke the engine?\nI bought an Ariens enclosure for the unit and the design seems to be 'universal fit'. It's not a good fit for this unit. The enclosure blocks access to the throttle and choke controls and it will only be a matter of time until I burn myself trying to squeeze my hand into narrow space between the controls and the muffler. Oh yeah, the enclosure blocks the light too. Now as I'm getting ready to store the unit for summer I notice that the oil drain is nearly blocked by the wheel. Looks like I'll have to remove the wheel to change the oil or end up getting oil all over the place.\nOverall, I'm pretty disappointed in the unit and am seriously considering selling it and buying something different.","Rating":2,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":0,"NotHelpfulCounter":0,"Posted":"2014-04-14T00:00:00","ApproverComment":""},{"MetaData":null,"HeroData":null,"ReviewID":14155,"ReviewGuid":"00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000","ModelID":"92105100","FirstName":"Joseph","City":"Alberta, Canada","State":"","Email":"wjosephw2002@hotmail.com","Headline":"Platinum 30","Comment":"I used it 4 times and it broke down, the belt came off broke the case, down for about a month and half waiting for parts. This runs great when there is only a few inches of snow, but if you are trying to go through a big pile of snow, Even the slowest speed is twice as fast as it should be. Instead of biting into the drift, the machine literally POPS up and almost tips over backwards. It takes all my strength to keep it from tipping all the way over. If this machine could be turned much much slower I am sure it would be powerful enough to chew through the drift. In addition-The auto steer technology is horrible. Because of the auto steer, small clumps of snow or ice can fool the machine into thinking you want to turn, and you have to fight the machine to stay in a straight line. Even with 3-4 inches of snow, controlling the auto steer to move in a straight line is a challenge. I'm sure my neighbors suspect their tee-totaling neighbor has started dipping into the scotch! I also purchased the snow canopy to help keep me dry on those early mornings I need to clear snow before leaving for work. The design in the canopy is also horrible! When operating in the day, the snow canopy works well, but NOT in the dark! When it's dark, the built-in light on the Snow blower shines directly into the plastic canopy causing a glare so intense it is impossible to see where you are going. This is TERRIBLY UNSAFE!!! - There should be a flap in the canopy that allows the area in front of the light to be lifted up when it's dark. There is no way to turn off the light, so I find myself putting a hand over the light. Because the light gets pretty hot, I have not felt comfortable draping a scarf over the light. I should have read the reviews before buying the machine. This design flaws are well documented by others.","Rating":1,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":0,"NotHelpfulCounter":0,"Posted":"2020-01-26T00:00:00","ApproverComment":""},{"MetaData":null,"HeroData":null,"ReviewID":14229,"ReviewGuid":"00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000","ModelID":"92105100","FirstName":"Snowman","City":"Rural Minnesota","State":"","Email":"rugy04@runestone.net","Headline":"Track drive auto steer is either junk or not set up right","Comment":"Bought a brand new 28 SHO Platinum track drive, everything else seems ok but the auto steer is either not set up right or is junk, the local Ariens preferred dealer is totally unfamiliar with the auto steer and not much help, in order to turn the unit I have to push down on the handles and put lots of pressure on the back part of the drive, virtualy lifting the blower housing 6-10\" up off the ground to get it to turn\nBasically you can only blow snow while moving in a straight line","Rating":1,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":0,"NotHelpfulCounter":0,"Posted":"2019-12-07T00:00:00","ApproverComment":""},{"MetaData":null,"HeroData":null,"ReviewID":13965,"ReviewGuid":"00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000","ModelID":"92105100","FirstName":"Doug","City":"Eastern Maine","State":"","Email":"","Headline":"Waste of money","Comment":"It's extremely hard to handle and rides up on the snow will not dig in. Dealer did not set up skids correctly. Dealer did not set up remote deflector cable correctly and as a result it welded itself to the muffler. The chute control only goes 90 degrees each way instead of the advertised 100 degrees. I dropped it off at a dealer here in Mass after telling them what was wrong and they said they would fix it. 2 days later they called me and said they could not fix the mistakes of another dealer. They also claimed that deflector chute was only designed to go 90 degrees to each side instead of the advertised 100 degrees. I called the factory and they said that I would have to go back to the original dealer to have them fix the set up problems. So If you buy one, be careful where u buy it. Now I will have to drive almost 2 hours there and 2 hours back to drop it off and then do the same to pick it up. At this point I will try to get my money back from the dealer or I will sell it at a loss to some one else and buy another brand. Ariens also does not mention that the auto- turn will only work on a perfectly smooth drive way. It is worthless if you have any imperfections in the concrete or asphalt. If you have an unpaved road like mine it will be a constant fight. Lessons learned here are 1. Ariens does not properly train or vet their dealers. 2. It appears poor design resulted in friction against the traction drive spring causing it to fail which in turn caused the friction plate to get a flat spot. I had filled it with fresh gas from a plastic container.\n\nThe third time I used it, the transmission and the engine failed again, and I returned the product for a refund.\n\nIn addition to these quality issues, this machine also had a number of design issues that made it much inferior to the old 1024 that I replaced:\n\nThe chute direction control jams frequently; this is because the control incorporates a rotation lock that is operated by a bowden cable from the handle, but the actuation of this is very touchy.\n\nThe chute elevation control also stops working as soon as there's any snow or ice on the chute. Again, it is operated by a bowden cable working against a very light spring, and the tolerances and design are such that it doesn't work well.\n\nThe headllight on the machine is very poorly designed so that it shines a blinding glare directly into the operator's eyes. If you are trying to use this at night, you are unable to see any of the controls, or much else, particularly if it is snowing.\n\nFor me, the auto-turn feature worked very poorly. It was nearly impossible to operate the machine in a straight line. As soon as the blower encounters any ice or frozen snow it veers to one side or the other. On the other hand, the machine is also hard to turn. You really have to shove the outside handle forward (as opposed to rotating the machine).\n\nThe engine has a steel (as opposed to plastic) fuel tank that is very small. (I believe that the engine problems that I had were related to an improperly sealed tank causing rust in the fuel system.)\n\nThe engine does not have an oil dipstick, although the oil filler cap has a fitting for one. To check the oil, you need to remove a plug low on the engine and then peer into the sump.\n\nThe engine has an oil drain extension, but it is located directly over the axle.\n\nIn my experience, the only positive feature of this snowblower are that it is orange.","Rating":1,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":0,"NotHelpfulCounter":0,"Posted":"2014-01-10T00:00:00","ApproverComment":""},{"MetaData":null,"HeroData":null,"ReviewID":14129,"ReviewGuid":"00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000","ModelID":"92105100","FirstName":"Gerry","City":"Bryant, Wisconsin","State":"","Email":"gehermy@gmail.com","Headline":"difficult to control","Comment":"used this a couple times and will be trading on something else. the auto turn steering is a nightmare, the machine jerks around almost out of control when it hits an uneven surface(ice chunks, etc). the chute adjustments do not always lock in for the direction you want to blow the snow, and the chute angle adjustment seems to go from low to high and nothing in between. the tires do not grip in the snow, they seem to clog up and do not deliver any traction. the balance on this machine is awful, it is so front end heavy it is difficult to raise it to move around. I have about an hour job of blowing and it is quite a workout with this. I had owned a john deere 1032d before this and it was easy to control and was a larger machine than this one. my wife could use the john deere without a problem, but was not able to use this. the only good thing is the power the motor delivers.","Rating":1,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":0,"NotHelpfulCounter":0,"Posted":"2013-12-23T00:00:00","ApproverComment":""},{"MetaData":null,"HeroData":null,"ReviewID":14074,"ReviewGuid":"00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000","ModelID":"92105100","FirstName":"Gregg","City":"Mpls, MN","State":"","Email":"gregg_severson@yahoo.com","Headline":"The Ariens Platinum 30\" - Quick Turn Chute design is...","Comment":"I bought a Platinum 30\" Snowblower with the Quick Turn Chute & 2nd time I used it, all the gear teeth broke/ stripped off. Ariens gave me a new gear and I installed it but, noted their design on the hex rod / instuctions was faulty with only two cotter pins and the washer supplied was not thick enough to permit proper gear teeth engagement /meshing. The problem is when you rotatate the chute, with a heavy snow load there was not enough preload between the mating gear teeth and they would skip /become disenged and break off the teeth. (My gear had 12 broken gear teeth) I solved this problem by machining a custom bronze washer that was about .150\" thicker than the skimpy washer Ariens supplied. I also drilled a new hole thru the hex rod behind the handle bar plate face and added a washer / cotter pin to permantly \"fix\" the gear teeth spacing so the gears would not \"Skip\" or break off again.","Rating":1,"Recommend":false,"Token":null,"HelpfulCounter":0,"NotHelpfulCounter":0,"Posted":"2013-03-27T00:00:00","ApproverComment":""}],"AverageRating":4,"PercentageRecommend":0.0,"RecommendCount":0,"RatingCount":334,"RecaptchaPublicKey":"6Lcp1SAUAAAAAHdjENofgT8zScDXnc17gKYv4BkF"}}"> PLATINUM 30 SHO
